Authentic Hadiths on the 4 Quls
Narrated by Aisha (RA)
"Whenever the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went to bed every night, he used to cup his hands together, blow over them after reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas, and then wipe his hands over whatever parts of his body he was able to wipe, starting with his head, face and front of his body. He used to do that three times."
Narrated by Abdullah ibn Khubayb (RA)
"The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to me: 'Recite Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad and the Mu'awwidhatayn (Al-Falaq and An-Nas) three times in the evening and in the morning; they will suffice you against everything (protect you from all harm).'"
Narrated by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (RA)
"The Prophet (ﷺ) said to his companions: 'Is one of you incapable of reciting a third of the Quran in a single night?' They said: 'How could anyone do that, O Messenger of Allah?' He replied: 'Surah Al-Ikhlas is equivalent to a third of the Quran.'"
Narrated by Uqbah ibn Amir (RA)
"The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'There have been revealed to me verses the like of which has never been seen: Qul a'udzu bi rabbi al-falaq and Qul a'udzu bi rabbi an-nas.'"
Benefits of Reciting the 4 Quls
1. Complete Spiritual Shield & Protection (Ruqyah)
The 4 Quls serve as the ultimate divine shield against spiritual harm, the evil eye (Ayn / Nazar), jealousy (Hasad), witchcraft (Sihr), and demonic whispers (Waswas).
2. Sunnah Before Sleeping
Reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas three times into cupped hands, blowing lightly, and wiping over the body is one of the most emphasized nightly Sunnahs.
3. Equivalent to Over a Third of the Quran
Surah Al-Ikhlas alone holds the virtue of one-third of the Holy Quran due to its pure exposition of Tawheed, while Surah Al-Kafirun equals one-quarter of the Quran.
4. Daily Morning & Evening Protection
Reciting the 4 Quls 3 times every morning after Fajr and 3 times every evening after Maghrib grants comprehensive protection from unexpected adversities.
